Hollywood vs Trump (response piece #1)

I’ve hesitated in posting this piece in fear of alienating some viewers. But now is not a time for self censorship, so here goes…

This little, simple piece, was my gut response to the results of the 2024 presidential election. A symbolic representation of the parties and how they have interacted with each other, this piece expresses my perspective, “my take,” on what happened. The red dominant piece on the right, is covered on blood-like sloshy paint, and feels to me like the horrific Republican party. And the little sprinkle of black sequins, is the Democrats attempt to take on the MAGA base, ultimately a drop in the pan—unsuccessful.

The black sequin loaded piece on the left, is the alternate universe: Flashy and powerful Hollywood’s massive influence on the election to oust the sitting President, before nominating the candidate of “Joy.” Seemingly progressive at face value, the prospect of a Black woman president was indeed thrilling, and the rocking DNC might have anyone drinking the Kool-Aid. But the night they wouldn’t let a Palestinian-American speak at the “Joy Party” convention, the blight was cast. The red slit infects the superficial sequins. Millions of votes lost with the simple decision to censure this subgroup, but I guess they thought they’d lose millions of AIPAC dollars—tough choice(?)

And so the precedent was set. The richest people decide who will be in power, and censorship is the order of the day.

I completed this piece prior to the 2025 presidential inauguration. And it continues to ring true in my perspective.

This piece is available for sale. It and others will be made available at the ChaShaMa artist reunion show taking place on March 18th.
