Grief #3

This is the third iteration of a project I have been developing since 2021. It relates to another piece I created in 2015-2018 of a woman's form using bright red fabric. In this piece I studied the male form, and incorporated the use of African funereal fabric I had saved from a trip I took to Ghana. It was there that I learned that the colors worn to express mourning there are black and red (and sometimes white). It took three attempts to achieve the technique I wanted, hence the #3 in the title. For me, this piece is about mourning the constant murders of black bodies, especially men.
