Prayer--Revisited

I created this piece in 2021 along with a series of several works addressing the 2020 "racial reckoning" inspired by the murder of George Floyd and so many other slain Black people. The photograph in the center was taken near my apartment, when my partner and I walked across the George Washington Bridge during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, to avoid taking a cab or public transportation. It was encouraging to see this graffiti; evidence of the impact of Floyd's death. I remember wondering, even then, how long that impact would last. I aimed to convey a sense of connection to the greater world through the additional images of the bridge, and to provide a sense of hope through the image of the children. Essentially, this piece is a prayer for the graffiti statement to actually be true.
